Ridge Lytton Springs (Dry Creek Valley ) 2002

This proprietary red blend would qualify for labeling as a Zinfandel, although just barely (75% zin, with smaller amounts of Petite Sirah and Carignane). It's a deep ruby-purple, almost inky. Big nose. On the palate, this is a big wine with firm tannins and plenty of acidity, which needs a little more time in bottle. I'd expect it to last at least through 2015 but it'll probably be in prime drinking condition from late 2007-2010. Sour cherry, earthy minerals, licorice, and blackberry. Grade: B (likely to go up with further improvement in bottle).
