Etude Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) 2004

A very pleasant, medium- to full-bodied Napa Cab. It’s not a blockbuster, despite clocking in at almost 15% alcohol, but rather a wine of finesse and elegance. Michael Jordan rather than Shaq.

The tannins are soft, allowing the wine to be drunk now with great enjoyment. Will it age? My track record with Etude is limited, but positive. In my experience, they’re like Silver Oak: Eminently drinkable on release, but also capable of extended aging. So I plan to lay down a half case or so and parcel them out over the next 10-15 years.

Blueberry, red currants, tobacco leaf, coffee, nutmeg, anise.

Grade: A-/A
