Technically, Villa Antinori is now an IGT rather than a Chianti, as the blend now includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and (of all things) Syrah, as well as Sangiovese. In this case, change is all to the good. This is a much better wine than the old Chianti blend. The nose is big, the flavors are forward, and the totality is yummy. Sour cherries dominate, but there are interesting and complex layers of dark fruit, minerals, and leather. Excellent to drink now, but probably will age well medium term. A super-Tuscan on a budget (I paid $22). Grade: A-
