Chateau Rieussec (Sauternes) 1988: Youthful in appearance and in the mouth. Excellent acidity balances the unctuous sweetness, so that it refreshes without cloying. Citrus and honey.
Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese (Germany) 1975: At age 31+, this clear and bright yellow-gold wine looks, smells, and tastes much younger. Crisp acidity and reasonably modest sugar levels make it useful as a desert wine, but also a wine one could imagine serving with some main courses. There is a very interesting suggestion of blue cheese on the nose. Very much outside my usual range, so it's tough to evaluate other than to say "I liked it. A lot."
